This new feature allows players to juggle with their opponent for consecutive combos. For the first time, players are able to maneuver around an arena and interact with walls and other things for extra damage. Tekken 4 introduces a significant new gameplay changes from the previous Tekken games.

The game was later released on the PlayStation 4 in 2002 (March 28 in Japan, September 13 in Europe, and September 23 in North America), adding a new system of unlocking characters (with two additional hidden characters), an update to the previous installment's "Tekken Force" minigame, and an updated Arcade mode (known as "Story Battle", featuring bonus cutscenes). The story is set two years after the events of Tekken 3 (where Jin Kazama, now possessed with the "Devil gene", defeats the mysterious entity known as Ogre and disappears), as Heihachi Mishima forms a fourth King of Iron Fist Tournament to lure out both his son Kazuya (who survived being thrown into a volcano) and his grandson Jin, as both of them possess the "Devil gene" necessary to splice with a sample of Ogre's blood to make Heihachi immortal. In the trailer, new moves for Kazumi, Julia, Panda, Asuka, Master Raven and Paul were shown off, though it's implied that every character is getting new moves. Certain characters who have seen poor tournament performance, such as Yoshimitsu and Gigas, seem to have been the focus of these adjustments, though all fighters have seen some form of balance changes.

Included on Bandai Namco's website to highlight the Season 4 balance changes is a 49-page PDF document that goes over the individual ways each character was altered. The second stage is part of the season-limited content being added to celebrate the 40 year anniversary of the Pac-Man series.ĪRENA has seen temporary changes before, such as during various Tekken competitive tournaments, but Pac-Man may stick around. Seasons 4 is also bringing two new stages to Tekken 7. The first of these new stages is Vermilion Gates, a feudal-Japan inspired map that was shown in the trailer to have both a day and night variant. In addition, it appears that Kunimitsu's mask can be removed as well.
There's also a cybernetic costume called the "Tenko Set." A tenko, in Japanese folklore, is the ascended version of a kitsune. These include an "urban ninja" set that includes a gas mask and white hoodie, giving Kunimitsu some serious Mirror's Edge vibes, and the "Regular Style" costume which seems to be much closer to the original Kunimitsu's outfit from previous Tekken titles. Several costumes for Kunimitsu were also revealed.
The original Kunimitsu, after failing to win the Iron Fist tournament twice in a row, retired and gave birth to Kunimitsu II, who's now ready for her time in the spotlight. Kunimitsu has technically appeared in previous Tekken titles, though Tekken 7's version of the character is actually the original's daughter.
